When love's the destination, let footprints that we leave show Christ as our companion and hope in threads we weave. -- (v2) In paths we take by chance or missteps we can't foresee, our lives are rounded answers that face infinity. With those who also travel, we share our joys or grief. When plans seem to unravel, friends offer us relief. -- (v3) What truth is it we're seeking and long to clearly see? A truth where love is speaking and one that sets us free from selfish goals constricting the good we could attain and from the strife afflicting humanity's domain. -- (v4) In unexpected places, God quietly appears Light seeps through broken spaces to counteract our fears. 'Mid chaos or rejection, grace enters in each day, to give to us direction and guide us on our way. -- ^Jn 25:13-45 - Jesus as companion on road to Emmaus Jn 8:32 - the truth will make you free Eph 4:15 - speak the truth in love Ps 107:43/ Ps 111:2 - the wise ponder the deeds of God 1 Kings 19:12 - God not in the wind but in the whisper Col 3:15 - Christ calls you together/Christ's peace guides you Jam 3:16 - selfishness brings disorder; wisdom is peace-loving Heb 4:16 - finding grace in time of need 1 Cor 10:13 - God provides a way to endure Deut 4:29 - seek God and you will find him Ps 84:5 - blessed are hearts set in pilgrimage Pr 4:25-26 - look ahead; give thought to your path Acts 2:28/ Ps 16:11 - God reveals the paths of life AB15 Could a Climber Scale a Mountain? -- Words & music: Allan Baer ©2011; arr. Shirley Porter %8 7 9 7 D $C ~4/4 -- (v1) Could a climber scale a mountain, or a runner start a race, without faith that they could seize the day, and then see their goal embraced? That's how dreams can move a boulder, by one pebble at a time, and the smallest mustard seed we plant soon will grow too tall to climb. -- (v2) Moses led a fickle people, Noah built a ship, inland! and they had no more to lead them on than a word of God's command. There will always be the skeptics who will say it can't be done, but unless we put our doubts aside, can a better world be won? -- (v3) Are we fools to walk this journey, or unwise to back a cause? If we fail, then let us start again and we'll rectify our flaws. Let our love outweigh our anger; let our hope outlast our fear, and let faithful witness light our way and protect us from despair. -- (v4) When our strength or knowledge fails us, then our faith will see us through, for our trust rests in a loving God who is generous and true. Let the grace God offers move us to bring peace to troubled hearts, and to build tomorrow as we share all the gifts that God imparts. -- ^Mt 17:20/ Lk 17:6 - faith of a mustard seed Mk 11:23/ Mt 21:21 - faith can move mountains Gen 7:17 - Noah's ark Heb 11:7 - Noah built the ark by faith 1 Cor 1:18-27 - cross is foolish 1 Cor 4:10 - we are fools for Christ 1 Cor 3:19 - man's wisdom is foolish to God 1 Tim 4:10 - put hope in the living God Rom 15:13 - God of hope fills you with joy & peace Rom 12:12-13 - be joyful in hope/share with needy 1 Jn 4:16-18 - God is love/love drives out fear 1 Cor 13:5 - love is not easily angered 2 Cor 9:12-15 - God's grace enables us to be generous Eph 4:26/ Jam 1:19-20 - don't let sun go down on anger Jam 1:5 - God gives generously 1 Pet 4:10 - be stewards of God's grace 1 Cor 13:8 - knowledge passes away Ps 31:10-14 - my strength fails but my trust is in God AB20 The Earth Is the Lord's -- Words & music: Allan Baer ©2013; arr Shirley Porter %9 8 9 8 D $F ~4/4 -- (v1) The earth is the Lord's and its fullness is granted to us as a trust to cherish, protect and to care for, and give the respect that we must. For all of our world then is sacred, the source of the life that it feeds. Each forest and marsh has a purpose, there's breath of divine in each seed. -- (v2) God lends us the sun and the water and soil to give bountiful yields, but much is retained by the wealthy though hunger is still not repealed. Why are we at odds with our planet consuming far more than we need? But greed or indifference blinds us and nature continues to bleed. -- (v3) What's left for the next generation, when finite resources are drained, when earth is defiled by its people and widespread extinctions profane? Our garbage pollutes distant oceans, our tailpipes provoke climate harm. Must remedies wait on our neighbours; will we remain deaf to alarms? -- (v4) For progress to have lasting value, our action must be what sustains the health and the balance of nature; as stewards, we tend God's domain. So use this inheritance wisely, and learn to live amply with less. Then keep this eighth day of Creation a covenant bond we can bless. -- ^Ps 24:1/ Ps 89:11/ 1 Cor 10:26 - earth is the Lord's Ps 65:9 - God cares for and waters the land Ps 95:4-5 - sea and mountain belong to God Is 24:4-6 - the earth is defiled by its people Gen 2:15 - mankind to take care of the garden Acts 14:17 - God shows kindness by giving rain & crops Ezek 34:18-17 - must you muddy the waters? When we cling too long to days that have gone, can we grasp the work to be done? When our children call from the streets, will we join their dancing and beat? Or like sleeping servants tending the gate, will we slumber 'til it's too late? -- (v3) Rise above the worry of loss; when we love, we take up our cross. So return with kindness even the hurt; let a flower bloom from the dirt. Reach across the bound'ries and walls and extend your welcome to all. In our neighbour's face, God's image is found, and the living Spirit abounds. -- (v4 opt) As we join to honour our past, may we cherish treasures that last. We are not alone; so answer God's call as the Spirit works through us all. Those duties must be ours. -- (v2) Food for the hungry, work for the jobless, shelter for refugees: when we help the deprived, we do unto Christ by tending the least of these. Yet the narrow gate yields a nobler state, when we help by sharing the load. Is our only aim to assign the blame but ignore the role that we play? Let us reconcile and endure our trials as we follow what Christ would say. -- (v3) We are not alone; may our trust be known in the One who shows us the way. Shirley Porter %8 8 8 8 D $G ~3/4 -- (v1) Why did it have to come to this: a mission ended by a kiss? The One whose pow'r could be complete, instead takes towel and washes feet. The Christ that even winds obey, but could not angry masses sway. And still he knew what lay ahead: an outcome others would have fled. -- (v2) What countless saviours we've forgot, but one that's crucified is not. Why do we need a death to save the Word for rescue from the grave? God does not want this sacrifice; to turn from hatred would suffice. If ways of peace we would disdain, then we betray our Lord again. -- (v3) It may have not been Judas' plan to cruelly put to death this man. Perhaps he sought to force his hand; will not messiahs take command? We look to might to solve our woes and reign triumphant over foes. But God would want a diff'rent end: not king or majesty but friend. -- ^Mt 26:48-49/ Mk 14:44-45/ Lk 22:47-48 - Judas' kiss Mt 8:27/ Mk 4:41/ Lk 8:25 - wind and seas obey Christ Lk 13:33 - "no prophet dies outside Jerusalem" Jn 13:1-14 - Christ washes feet Mt 20:18-19/ Lk 18:31-33 - predicting death in Jerusalem Mt 24:35/ Mk 13:31/ Lk 21:33 - Christ's words will not pass away Mt 9:13/ Mt 12:7/ Hos 6:6/ Heb 10:5-10/ Ps 40:6/ Is 1:11 - God wants mercy, not sacrifice Mt 27:1-5 - Judas' remorse Zech 4:6 - not by might or power but by God's spirit Jn 15:15 - Christ calls you friends AB Wind of the Spirit -- Words: Allan Baer ©2008 %7 7 7 6 D $F ~4/4 -- (v1) Wind of the Spirit blowing; seeds of renewal sowing; hope for our children growing; flow, living Spirit, flow. Then let Christ reside within us and in trials with which we deal. -- (v2) Do we notice there are others, homeless, sleeping on the street, forced to live in cardboard boxes, scrambling for enough to eat? Trapped by illness or addiction, often battered by abuse, lonely souls who've been excluded, turned from friend into recluse. -- (v3) Refugees from far-off nations, fleeing terror, famine, war; struggling simply for survival, looking for an open door; seeking haven, seeking safely, with what little they have brought; how could we deny asylum that our forebears also sought? -- (v4) Then wherever chance may take us, work for good in where we dwell, Forge a space where all are welcome; and indifference, dispel.
